CQRLOG 3.0.0 has been released

It has been a long time since the latest CQRLOG release. The last version was released on 2021-02-12, almost five years ago. Since then, Saku, OH1KH, forked the original source code and created CQRLOG Improved.

A few weeks ago, I decided to start working on CQRLOG again.

Pokračovat ve čtení: CQRLOG 3.0.0 has been released

My goal is not to include all features from CQRLOG Improved. I want to keep CQRLOG simple and mainly add features that are useful for me as a CW operator.

I don’t use digital modes at all. For me, amateur radio has always been about communication between people. Especially with FT* modes, most of the communication is automated and computers talk to each other. You cannot really ask a question or have a conversation; you mostly watch the computers make the QSO.

This is simply not the part of amateur radio that interests me, so I don’t use these modes and I cannot properly test or fix bugs related to them. If digital modes are important to you, CQRLOG Improved by Saku, OH1KH, is probably a better choice. His version has much more development and support in this area.

I also decided not to publish information about my new versions on the cqrlog.com website. The forum there is now mainly used for CQRLOG Improved, and I don’t want to create confusion between the two versions.

Here is the changelog:

  • WSJT-C CQ monitor shows US states
CQ-monitor checbox „USt“ that allows USA states to monitored wsjt-CQs
When you check it at first time it suggests loading from fcc.gov it should
suggest same after 90 days of usage to update data.
US callsign=state (fcc_states.tab) file is over 10Mb and ist is loaded
to RAM for runtime. Seeking a callsingn from there takes some time. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • RTTY mode is now DATA
At preferences/Modes you will see a new „DATA“ that replaces the old „RTTY“.
Defaults for that are rig cmd:RTTY data mode:RTTY that acts like previous Cqrlogs.
Setting data mode affects DXSpots coloring and double clicking: You can set other
mode than RTTY to be used. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Online log upload
Bottom of Preferences/Online log upload has some checkboxes to affect
    to online log upload.
See help/Quick start/Online log upload support for more information. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • RBN monitor: spots can now be sent to the band map as well. Toggle it with ‚Send spots to band map‘ in the right click menu of the RBN monitor window; the band map window has to be open. Colour of the RBN entries is set in Preferences/Bandmap. (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • New window Band map (graphical), opened from the Window menu. Spots are drawn on a vertical kHz ruler at their real frequency, so the distance on screen is the distance on the band. A cursor shows where the radio is tuned and the ruler follows it; with no radio connected it follows the frequency typed into New QSO instead, so you can change band by hand; the map can be dragged up and down with the mouse to look elsewhere in the band; the visible span is switchable from 2 kHz to 600 kHz (combo box, +/- buttons or the mouse wheel); the view never reaches more than 5 kHz past a band edge, since there is nothing to show out there. Everything else sits in the menu behind the M button: marking, returning to and clearing your own CQ frequency, filter settings, removing all spots and help. Double clicking a spot loads the call into New QSO and tunes the radio, double clicking the CQ line only tunes back to it. Filtering uses the very same dialog the classic band map uses and both windows share the settings, so ‚not worked since‘, LoTW/eQSL only, show active band and show active mode work the same in both; the M caption shows a star when any filter is on. It runs next to the classic band map and does not replace it – both windows can be open at the same time and both receive spots independently. Not available in this window: xplanet export and saving spots to disk – the classic band map still does those. Aging and font are shared as well (Preferences/Bandmap). (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • Band map: closing the window killed its consumer thread and never restarted it, so after reopening the band map stayed empty for the rest of the session and a second close could crash. The thread now lives as long as the program does. (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • macOS: fixes for TRX preferences saving, rotctld/rigctld paths and CW interface configuration (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • NewQSO: editing a QSO from the NewQSO window fixed (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • Membership: loading club data now truncates the table before import (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • QSO list: Fix display of #QSOs and #DXCC cfmd when using dark theme (George, N3GB)
  • Dark theme: readable green bar rows in grids, DX cluster spots and texts, band map, Details and log upload windows (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • macOS: ADIF import saved frequency as 0 on Apple Silicon; also fixed label print and frequency memories (FPC compiler bug workaround) (Petr, OK2CQR)
  • eQSL download: Fixed the stuck up caused by eQSL starting to add one more empty line at the end of downloaded file (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Contest: Inform remote mode ‚on‘ when saving manual entered qso. Multimode contests like
NAC (CW,Phone,MGM) it may happen that remote is left on when jump from FT8 to CW/Phone.
Then entering qso manually looks like saved, but will never appear into log. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • EDI/file export: fix opening certain filenames and paths (Thomas, SM3XCS)
  • ClubLog: endpoint updated to clublog.org (Greg, VK6LH)
  • CW Messages: Fix to open/close when Contest window open and S&P not checked (Saku, OH1KH)

  • Hammlib:CW and Voice keying: Changes for latest Hamlib w34/2023 (Saku, OH1KH)
  • DBConnection:Utils:Configuration:Export: Force file extension to be ‚.ini‘ as Configuration:Import lists only ‚.ini‘ files (Saku, OH1KH)
  • RigControl: rigctld parameter ‚-C auto_power=1‘ is added only if user checks ‚Rig pwr ON cmd‘ in TRXControl preferences. This should help old Hamlibs that claim auto_power is wrong parameter and refude to start (Saku, OH1KH)
  • NewQSO: Details Tab selected remembered even when satellite mode enabled (Saku, OH1KH)
  • RigControl: Fix to set_powerstat at init (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Fixed date format checking routine (Saku, OH1KH)

  • WSJTremote, Map mode: ‚*‘ appear fixed when line ends ‚ 73‘ (Saku, OH1KH)
  • WSJTremote, Map mode: ‚*‘ appeared when CQ-callers locator ended ’73‘ (should appear only ‚RR73‘ or ‚ 73‘ endings). Fixed (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Fixed: 8M & 5M frequency add to bands when 1st start of Cqrlog. (DB upgrade was ok before) (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Cabrillo export: Changed export to use time_off instead of time_on.
With CW and Phone qsos this does not matter as times are usually same.
With FT8 qso takes longer and WSTX’s (and N1MM’s) exports are using time_off.
Now Cqrlog’s export is equal to others. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Preferences: wsjt/fldigi: fixed hidden checkbox (Saku, OH1KH)
  • WSJT remote: fixed contest logging. Remote name should have WSJT instead of being exactly WSJT-X.

stayed closed during Cqrlog start (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Fixed offline qso feed. When qso is saved returns to QsoDate column.
This makes qso manual feed from paper log easier as things start
from date and tabulation continues in chronological order:
date, start, end, call, freq, mode .. etc and when qso is saved
focus returns again to date column.
When typing in Date and times in Offline Cqrlog will add punctuation
marks (‚-‚ or ‚:‘) automatic. This way only number keys need to be typed.
When not valid locator is entered (usually odd number of characters)
NewQSO/GRID label will turn bold red as warning sign when exit from
    grid column. (Saku, OH1KH)

Fixed all edtboxes value limits to 0..9999. Fixed tabulation orders (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Fix for contest name in contests that have all modes in use
    CW/SSB/FM/MGM like NAC has.
Then MGM qsos coming from WSJT-X will get name from Cqrlog contest
name currently in contest window if it is open during remote.
This overwrites WSJT-X predefined 4 contest names making all
qsos in contest to have same contest name defined in contest window. (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Misc bug fixes.
-Changed Contest Filter to show contest names in order from A to Z (acs)
-Adjusted Contest Filter maxlines to default (8). This has effect when
QT5 widgets are used (shows more contest names at time).
-Fixed typo in Group edit field selector. Had „ŕ“ in „operator“
-Fixed TRXControl’s button „70cm“. If no previous settings for 70cm
defaults were done loaded 80m band settings when pressed.
-Fixed double usage of query qBands. Preferences/bands/Frequencies list
loose it’s grid contents if Wsjt-x remote is on (behind) and CQ-monitor selected.

  • Grayline: Removed some unconditional debug prints (Saku, OH1KH)
  • Removed one debug print from rigcontrol (Saku, OH1KH)

It’s huge. From my point of view, the best new feature is the graphical band map. I like it much more than the old text list of stations.

My version of CQRLOG now also works on macOS. GitHub automatically creates DEB, AppImage and Flatpak packages as well.

On Linux, the Qt6 widgets are now the default.

All files are available for download on GitHub.

If you find a bug or have any problem, please let me know by e-mail or create an issue on GitHub.
